Focused in one of the most mature oil and gas regions in the world, Stonegate believes that there is value to be created by proper application of technology in and around producing fields.  Much of our focus area has been developed with the best technology available at the time – 20, 30, 40 or 50 years ago.  Horizontal Underbalanced Drilling is an underutilized technology with great potential to recover more hydrocarbons within Stonegate’s focus area.  Underbalanced drilling has the added advantage of being an effective appraisal technique to assess the potential of known hydrocarbon zones as well as discovering bypassed pays.

Portions of this prolific area have been evaluated with 2D and older 3D seismic technology, with only a limited area having the benefit of modern 3D analysis.  The advances in 3D technology hold the promise of identifying undrained fault blocks, fracture systems, bypassed pays, subtle undrilled structures, stepouts, deeper horizons and stratigraphic plays.

Combining these technologies - Horizontal / Underbalanced Drilling with 3D seismic, can drive redevelopment of fields with the potential of higher producing rates and recoveries than the original field development.

 

While seismic, technology, horizontal wells and underbalanced drilling are considered core technologies, Stonegate adapts development plans quickly to ensure that the most appropriate and effective technologies are used to maximize returns.
